The President Calls Families of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House

Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Call

The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump told reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Reaction

Mourners assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Judicial Actions and Government Revisions

Officials have accused a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the government to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.

Condition of the Airman

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.

Impact of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
