The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
