Spurs Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Tension on Frank

Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "they cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs let in two scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th top-flight home loss of 2025.

However the main talking point was Fulham's next goal when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his box.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the sideline.

However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.

Moments later when the ball came to the keeper again, a number of Spurs fans booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions really irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently jeered the situation and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Dane stated about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."

Tete had handed Fulham a early lead prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.

Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "completely avoidable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He is a great squad member, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game

Italy national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

He stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad loss and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second most distant top division goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.

10 seconds passed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds following the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.

"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which gave me a bit of additional time. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the correct contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to extend their home woes.

This was their tenth at home defeat of the year in the league, a joint team statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.

Just a single of those victories have come since Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.

"During in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to keep working. The later period was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He's got accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's taken a prestigious role at a major team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
