Approximately 55,000 families have reportedly been impacted by the storms, with their possessions and temporary homes destroyed.

Intense rains over the past week have compounded the precarious circumstances of the vast number of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by aid agencies.

"Awful" Weather Brings Grave Threats

A official detailed the previous night's conditions as "awful", with rain so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.

"The recent weather was truly horrendous for the residents. The storms were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," noted the spokesperson.

Officials express grave concern that children residing in makeshift shelters in wet attire will fall victim to hypothermia and additional illnesses.

Fatalities and Widespread Loss

Health authorities have stated that one baby has succumbed from the cold and at least 11 other people have been killed in structural failures due to the severe weather.

Further statements indicate a increased fatality count. Officials stated that multiple homes had totally fallen and many others had been partly destroyed.

  • Almost 55,000 families affected by flooding.
  • More than 40 designated refuges severely flooded.
  • Numerous individuals required to find new shelter.

Assistance Efforts Deemed Not Enough

Groups have escalated distribution of shelter, blankets and garments since the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is still not enough aid entering.

"Agencies are striving constantly to provide that aid and to distribute it, but the size of the necessities is so enormous that we are faced with a great number of families and minors who are truly suffering nightly," warned one official.

Ongoing Issues and Truce Plans

The subsequent part of the truce encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of military forces, and other terms.

Aid groups have highlighted the necessity for "greater and continuous aid to meet immediate and ongoing needs."

The hostilities was initiated by an assault in October 2023. Later campaigns have caused a substantial number of casualties in the area, based on health ministry figures.
