Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year following leading disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front and Bamford looking to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

Bamford made 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
