Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they start the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
