It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
